Our Mission Statement
Founder Region Soroptimist International of the Americas improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
Founder Region is so named because the first Soroptimist club met and was chartered in Oakland, California in 1921 when the first club, Soroptimist Association of Alameda County (now known as Soroptimist International of Oakland - The Founder Club) was formed. The Constitution of that first club stated the purpose of Soroptimist was "To foster the spirit of service..." That purpose and "spirit of service" drives every Soroptimist club, district, region, and federation to this day.
Since those beginnings, Soroptimist International (SI) - which consists of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Europe, Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland and Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific, is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls. Our network of over 75,000 club members in 122 countries works at a local, national and international level to Educate, Empower and Enable opportunities for women and girls.
Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA) - composed of 21 different countries and territories, has our headquarters located in Philadelphia, PA.
